Hardware
Racks, servers, power and cooling. We spec it, keep it running and make sure it gets fixed.
Most people never see what we do. That’s the idea: when infrastructure is built well, it just works.
We’re engineers who run large computing infrastructure day to day. Most of us have carried a pager, and we’d rather build the thing ourselves than bolt on someone else’s fix.
We put together large computing infrastructure and look after it. Hardware, network, the platform on top and the monitoring that tells us when something is off. Ideally before anyone else notices.
People who would rather fix a problem properly once than patch it ten times. If you read the logs before guessing and write runbooks nobody asked for, we’ll get along.

The layer that turns a pile of machines into something people can use. Mostly code and a lot of automation.
Dashboards, alerts and on-call. We want a quiet pager, and the only honest way to get one is to fix root causes.
Electricity isn’t free. We spend a lot of time making sure every machine does useful work instead of sitting idle.
When something breaks, we want to know why. Then we make sure it can’t break the same way twice.
Docs, runbooks, notes after every incident. Whoever is on call next shouldn’t have to guess.
Fewer meetings and fewer handoffs. You build something, you run it, and you get a real say in how.
